Do your research.
As with any job application, it is important to do your research! I’m not just talking about a 20-minute Google session, I mean in-depth research! Try going to the corporate or “about us” pages of a potential employer’s website, research their general business strategy, understand where they are and where they want to be in 5 years time, and develop reasoning as to why you are the candidate that can help them achieve their specific business and sales goals.
Part of your research should also be to understand how your experience fits with the company and position and how it might not. Try to emphasize what experience is already applicable and worth showing off. At the same time, it is important to develop answers for why the experiences that are less applicable actually make you a better candidate because they make you unique, someone with an outsider perspective.

If you want to get into sales it is important to be an open person who enjoys talking to people! But beyond that, it is also important to have an open mindset and a go-getting attitude. Whether in your CV, in a cover letter, or during an interview always be specific with your points. When talking about your skills and background knowledge it is important to demonstrate evidence that you actually do have these skills, that you do have concrete experience.

Bring your passion.
In order to really stand out during a recruitment process focus on your passion and what makes you unique. Ideally, your passion should be something relevant to the field of sales, whether it is serving customers, engaging with new people, or bringing the latest tech to new audiences, what is it that you what to achieve in your new role? How will you bring your unique purpose to the position and why does this make you a more qualified candidate than others?
Before any interview sit down and go through each of these tips. When it comes to finding specific examples of your skills or experience, and defining your passions write down four or five points that you can bring up in the interview and that truly define why you are the best candidate for the role.
